For many… the last day of school usually means a time to sleep in or head towards the beach…
For others… it’s a time to make some… MONEY!
But the Summer 2008 teen job market has been overshadowed by lay offs and cut backs… as the economy faces the highest unemployment rate in history!
According to the Center for Labor Market Studies of Northeastern University, they say that the teen unemployment rate will not rise above 34%. Adding that in 61 years… this is considered to be the worst jobless rate for teens… especially teens in low income families.
Cities such as in Chicago, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Boston are reporting an increase in teen crime and gang activity from their out of work demographic
There are a number of factors as to why teens will find searching for a job a challenge.
Besides the economy… Teens looking for work will also find a lot of competition from recently laid-off workers and college graduates.
And that… According to SnagAJob… they learned that managers who do plan on hiring are less than impressed with the work ethic that teens bring to the workplace. Saying that "today's youth do not have the same work ethic as previous generations have had."
